Sunday recap John 7:1 – 8:59
March 14, 2021
We have reached the end of the fourth section in John 2-12, in which the ceremonies of pouring out water and the lighting of lamps at the Feast of Tabernacles are the signs which point symbolically to Jesus as the water and the light of life Before we go on this week to look at the next section, John 9:1 - 10:42, reflect today on a verse from each of the six passages which we have read in the past week:
“Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” (7:17)
“Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (7:38)
“By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” (7:39)
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (8:12)
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (8:31-32)
“‘Very truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I am!’” (8:58)
