Sunday recap John 6:1-71

March 7, 2021

We have reached the end of the third section in John 2-12, which begins with the two signs of Jesus feeding the five thousand followed by him walking on the water to his disciples. These signs point to Jesus as the bread of life, the one who has come down from heaven with supernatural authority to give eternal life. Before we go on this week to look at the next section, John 7:1- 8:58, reflect today on a verse from each of the six passages which we have read in the past week:

Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.” (6:11)

But he said to them, ‘It is I; don’t be afraid.’” (6:20)

Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (6:35)

I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live for ever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” (6:51)

Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.” (6:57)

Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’ (6:68)
