Sunday recap John 2:1 – 4:42
February 20, 2021
We have reached the end of the first section in John 2-12, which begins with the sign of Jesus changing water into wine. That sign points to the new religion – the new life – which Jesus brought. Before we go on this week to look at the next section, John 4:43- 5:47, reflect today on a verse from each of the six passages which we have read in the past week:
“Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.” (2:10)
“After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.” (2:22)
“Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.” (3:6)
“For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.” (3:34)
“Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (4:14)
“We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Saviour of the world.” (4:42)
