Seated at the right hand of the Father

God has exalted Jesus to “the highest place”. and that place is seated at the right hand of the Father. He had come from “the Father’s side” (John 1:18) and it’s to there he returns when his work on earth is done. The imagery points to his uniqueness: “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being... After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb.1:3; 10:12).

.

This too is part of the full significance of his resurrection, “when God raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms”, Lord over everyone and everything (Eph.1:20-22). So we need to set our hearts and our minds on this reality, of Christ seated at the right hand of God, the location of the spiritual life which is ours in him (Col.3:1-3; Heb.12:2).

.

His position at the Father’s side points to his work of intercession on our behalf (Rom.8:34). He is placed perfectly to bring our prayers to our Father, which is why we come to God in the name of Jesus. He is our exalted High Priest who always lives to pray for us and who invites us to "approach the throne of grace with confidence" to find the help we need (Heb.4:16; 7:25; 8:1).
